Dear Mr. President:

Iran Roundtable, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of democracy and human rights in Iran, has the honor to present its compliments to Your Excellency and to present this letter expressing our concerns that the current nuclear negotiation may distract the US from the grave human rights violations and the alarming surge in executions by the Islamic Republic of Iran under President Hassan Rouhani. While fully supporting the Administration’s policy of preventing the Iranian regime from acquiring nuclear weapons, we firmly believe...داها اطرافلی

Iran Roundtable, (Washington, DC) - Recent nuclear negotiations between the West and the Islamic Republic of Iran  has raised concerns among ordinary Iranians that  the alarming human rights violations under President Rouhani are being ignored  in...داها اطرافلی

In June 2009, President Obama sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader asking for “engagement.” This move, coupled with Obama’s abandonment of the civil revolt in Iran that same month, sent a comforting message to the ruling Khomeinists: The United States is retreating from containment and will not support regime change in Iran. That undeniably emboldened Tehran to go on the offensive in the region after less than a decade of status quo.داها اطرافلی

In November, major world powers struck an interim deal with the regime of Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI), giving Tehran an estimated $7 billion in sanctions relief in return for steps to halt the regime’s nuclear activities. The deal called for negotiating a full agreement within 6 months, possibly a year, and gradual loosening of sanctions that many rightly believe has brought the regime to the negotiating table.داها اطرافلی

For the third consecutive day, low-income Iranian families lined up Tuesday in harsh winter weather outside government–run distribution centers to pick up free food parcels.  Everyone who makes less than 5 million rials per month -- the equivalent of about $200 -- is entitled to one food basket; however many farmers, villagers and millions of uninsured labourers are deprived fro the handout.  This is an initiative by the new government to substitute Ahmadinejad-era cash handouts with essential food items imported from India (rice) and Turkey  (chicken).  Apparently, these items are...داها اطرافلی

More than 40 people were hanged in Iran in the first 22 days of this year, senior United Nations officials have just revealed. In a report just published on human rights in Iran, Ahmed Shaheed and Christopher Heyns said there had been a surge in summary executions in Iran. Those put to death included a number of people accused of acting against national security. The two UN Special Raporteurs called on Tehran to put an immediate halt to any further hangings.داها اطرافلی

Iran Human Rights, December 10: Iranian authorities moved two prominent Ahwazi Arab prisoners from Karoun Prison to an undisclosed location on 7 December, prompting fears they could be executed.

Iran Human Rights calls for the Iranian authorities to immediately overturn the death sentences of the men, who were subjected to torture and unfair trials that have been condemned by several UN experts. IHR’s appeal comes just days after four other Ahwazi Arab prisoners were taken from Karoun Prison and executed.داها اطرافلی

On December 10, 1948, UNGA adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, proclaiming its principles as the “common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations.” Following, UNGA created the mandate of High Commissioner for the promotion and protection of all human rights. The Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action, adopted by the World Conference, marked the beginning of a renewed effort in the protection and promotion of human rights and is regarded as one of the most significant human rights documents of the past quarter century.

Iran Roundtable is deeply appalled by the recent execution of four Ahwazi Arabs who were hanged this week following weeks of confusion over their disappearance from prison.
The four men, Abdulreza Amir Khanafereh (26), Ghazi Abbasi (31), Abdulamir Mojdami (33) and Jasem Moghadampanah (28) - were sentenced to death by Judge Ali Farhadvand at Branch 1 of the Ahwaz Revolutionary Court last year. Three others were given life sentences. These sentences were upheld by Judge Reza Farajollahi at the Supreme Revolutionary Court on 13 February 2013.داها اطرافلی
