WGEID 105th session on enforced disappearance
Ahwaz Human Rights Organization participates in the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances at its 105th session in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 2 – 6 March 2015.
Dr. Karim Abdian Bani Said, Head of Ahwazi Human Rights Organization took part in the meetings of this session of the Committee on Enforced Disappearances and presented a comprehensive report on political activists ,forcibly disappeared prisoners and political activists who have been extradited from Syria, Iraq and other countries to the Iranian authorities.
After a brief summery of the history of Ahwazi People ,Dr.Abdian discussed the human rights violations against the Ahwazi Arabs and the reinforced disappearance of their activists and different types of discriminations and prosecution that is being exercised by Iranian authorities .
Dr.Abdian also briefed the attendees and the committee with information about the disappeared people and the circumstances of their disappearance ,recalling the especial rapporteur of United Nation Mr. Miloon Kothari visit to Ahwaz in 2005 ,who submit a comprehensive report on the Ahwazi people and their daily suffering at the hand of the ruling regime in Iran ,in his report Mr.Kothari pointed that ethnic cleansing is perpetrated against Ahwazis.
Dr.Abdian meets with the Working Group committee
Dr.Abdian met with Mr.Areil Dublitzky the chair rapporteur of WGEID and law professor in Texas university. During the meeting Mr.Dublitzky requested a report from AHRO about the situation of disappeared Arab political activists and other religious and ethnicities activists. Dublitzky also invited AHRO for the next session of WGEID and to present their report over the disappeared activists by Iranian government since 2009 up till today
Professor Dublitzky spoke about the efforts of working group and stated that the committee has a list of 519 disappeared political activists in Iran which includes Ahwazi Arab victims ,and almost 43000 at the global level ,and that the committee will investigate the cause of disappeared with the relevant countries.
In response to the speech of Professor Dublitzky ,Dr.Abdian showed his willingness to collaborate with the committee and as a former political prisoner announced his readiness as the head of Ahwaz Human Rights Organization to cooperate with regard of 519 disappeared citizens of Iran ,regardless of their ethnicity ,religion or language. .Abdian also spoke about the hard situation and suffering of the families of the enfocerd disappearances victims.
During these four days Abdian met with representatives of different human rights organizations.
The Committee on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances is a body of independent experts that monitors implementation of the States Parties to the Convention. All States parties are obliged to submit reports to the Committee over the realization of rights. States must submit a report within two years of ratification of the Convention.
Follow-up Committee of the missing is made up of a group of experts and special rapporteurs of the UN body which monitor the situation of the missing activists in countries who signed the human rights committee decisions. This collaboration happens through the public and non public-UN body correspondence with the members.
It is worth mentioning that the Ahwaz Human rights organization have been cooperating for more than ten years on activists enforced disappearance and political prisoners who were kidnapped from other countries and were handed over to the Iranian government .The organization communicates with the United Nations and international committees about the conditions of political activists , particularly in ethnic and religious minority areas ,especially Ahwaz.
Iran's dark record in enforced disappearance
Since the inception of Islamic Republic of Iran almost three decades ago ,a great number of Ahwazi Arab were killed under torture,some were drowned in the Karoon river ,they were thrown from airplanes to the water or in the middle of the desert, or were buried with no sign or name.
